Robert John Fleming III Biographical Notes: Robert Fleming grew up in rural Iowa and attended Phillips Exeter Academy (Classical Diploma, 1965) and the University of Pennsylvania. After earning a B.A. (1969) and an M.S. in Education (1970), he became a teacher tenured in the Philadelphia public school system. Later, again at Penn, he received professional training in landscape architecture and land use planning, earning the degree Master of Landscape Architecture (1977). Professional Activities: Mr. Fleming joined the firm of Hanna/Olin Ltd., Landscape Architects (now OLIN) at its founding in 1977. In 1984 he formed his own practice (incorporated in 1989 as a Professional Corporation). Until his retirement in 2009 he was a registered landscape architect and a member of the American Society of Landscape Architects. As a designer and planner Mr. Fleming specialized in advising professionals, institutions, and individuals on the care, preservation, and restoration of endangered or valued historic and natural landscapes. He was for nine years a faculty member at the University of Pennsylvania in the Department of Architecture (Lecturer, Graduate Group in Historic Preservation). Public Service: At Penn Mr. Fleming served for many years as a member of the Graduate School of Fine Arts Board of Overseers. He has been a member of the Vestry of the Church of St. Martin-in-the Fields, Philadelphia; a member of the board of the Highlands Historical Society, Pennsylvania; and a Trustee of the Wallace Centers of Iowa (wallace.org). Currently, he is a member of the board and a Vice-Chair of the Morris Arboretum of the University of Pennsylvania, a member of the Advisory Board of the Henry A. Wallace Chair in Sustainable Agriculture at Iowa State University, and Chair of the Wyck Association, Philadelphia (wyck.org). Mr. Fleming is a trustee and Treasurer of the Fleming Family Foundation.
