Rusty Hatchell is a doctoral student in Media Studies at the University of Texas at Austin. He earned his B.A. in English from Georgia Gwinnett College and his M.A. in Media Studies from the University of Texas at Austin. His research generally looks at the cultural and industrial relations between location and production practice, focusing mostly on science fiction, fantasy, and superhero television filmed in the United States and Canada. His M.A. thesis, "Sci-Fi TV in the Great White North: The Development of Vancouver as a Science Fiction Media Capital," explored how the multi-channel transition of the Hollywood television industry cultivated a high-demand for content production and ultimately led to a wave of science fiction, horror, and supernatural productions in Vancouver.
Currently, he has work forthcoming in Middle West Review. He also serves as a Senior Editor of Flow as well as a member of the editorial collective of The Velvet Light Trap.
