MediaCommons is accepting proposals for new projects. To learn more about what we do in general see About.
Current projects:
In Media Res - Focusing on, but not limited to, the Media Studies community, In Media Res is a collaborative, multi-modal experiment in online scholarship. Scholars curate daily visual clips or slideshows with short written responses, encouraging feedback and discussion. Theme weeks generate networked conversations between groups of curators. [more]
MediaCommons Press - An in-development feature of MediaCommons, promoting the digital publication of texts ranging from article to monograph length, focused on the field of Media Studies.
The New Everyday - A “middle state” publication straddling the line between a blog and a scholarly journal. Anyone with a MediaCommons account can contribute to The New Everyday. Selected contributions are curated into thematic “clusters,” which function simultaneously in ways similar to a magazine issue and to a call for submissions.
Project proposals:
We look for projects that seek to transform scholarly discourse, drawing together members of the current scholarly community and those in communities not currently participating in academic discourse. New projects must be significantly distinct from our current projects.
Your project proposal must include:
- A brief description of your project, including area of focus, and why your project is distinct from our current projects.
- The content types (text, images, video, discussion, etc.) and structures of the project. How are you going to group the content? How will readers be engaged with the work?
- Workflow: editorial roles, who can post, who can delete posts. Do posts have to be approved before posting? How often will new content be posted?
- Your qualifications: why are you the right person to take on this project?
Submit proposals using this form. One of the editors will be in touch to talk with you about your idea, but it may take us a while to respond. Please be patient. Questions? Contact the editors.
